KYC Guide – Verifying Your Identity

Before anyone can deposit or play, UK rules require us to confirm age and identity. Most players are verified automatically in moments; this guide covers everyone else.

Last updated

Know Your Customer, usually shortened to KYC, is the process we use to confirm who you are. It is a legal requirement for every casino licensed in Great Britain, and it protects you as much as it protects us.

Why the UK requires verification before play

Under UK Gambling Commission rules, we must verify a customer’s name, date of birth and address before they can deposit or play any game, including free-to-play versions. These checks:

  • stop anyone under 18 from gambling;
  • prevent fraud and identity theft;
  • help stop money laundering;
  • allow self-exclusion schemes such as GAMSTOP to work properly.

So when we ask for a document, it is not a sign that anything is wrong. It is simply the law.

What we check

At registration you give us your full name, date of birth and home address. We check these electronically against trusted UK data sources. For most players this is instant and no documents are needed.

If the electronic check cannot confirm everything, we ask for documents. We may also request:

  • a selfie liveness check, to confirm the ID belongs to you;
  • proof of payment method, to confirm that cards and e-wallets are in your name;
  • source of funds information at higher deposit levels.

Verification is a one-off for most players. We may ask again if your details change, for example a new address, or when you reach higher deposit levels.

Common reasons documents are rejected

  • Name mismatch: the name on the document differs from your account. If you have changed your name, include proof such as a marriage certificate.
  • Blurred or cut-off edges: all four corners must be visible and the text readable.
  • Expired ID: passports and licences must be in date.
  • Old proof of address: bills and statements must be dated within 3 months.
  • Wrong document type: mobile phone bills and envelopes are not proof of address.
  • Card digits uncovered: please cover the middle digits for your own safety.

If a document is rejected, we email you the reason. Simply upload a new version through the same page.

Source of funds checks

As a licensed operator, we must make sure the money you play with is affordable and comes from a legitimate source. At higher deposit levels, we may ask for payslips, recent bank statements or a P60. This is a standard UK requirement and is also part of our duty of care. Until these checks are complete, deposit limits may apply to your account.

How we protect your data

We handle every document under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018:

  • Uploads are encrypted in transit and stored securely.
  • Only trained verification staff can view your documents.
  • We use your data only for verification, legal compliance and fraud prevention, never for marketing without your consent.
  • We keep records only as long as the law requires.
  • You can request a copy of the data we hold about you at any time.

Frequently asked questions

How long does document verification take?

We usually review documents within 24 hours, and often within minutes. You will receive an email as soon as your account is verified or if we need anything else.

Why was my document rejected?

The most common reasons are a name that does not match your account, blurred or cut-off edges, and expired ID. Upload a clear, complete, in-date photo or scan to fix it.

Can I play while my verification is pending?

No. UK rules require age and identity checks before any deposit or play. Once verified, you can deposit and claim the welcome offer straight away.
